Your Website As An Internet Success

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Anybody who runs or manages a website has a few main responsibilities to handle. First and foremost, the website must be clear to all who view it, meaning, that when any browser reaches the site he is completely aware of exactly what kind of content the website contains or what kind of products are being sold.

This manager is also responsible for making the website an appealing one. Every website must have some reason for an Internet surfer to browse through the site. Something must pull him in like an advertisement or a limited time offer only available on this website.

It is, of course, of utmost importance the website be up and running. A website that does not function properly is absolutely worthless, a waste of time for the browser and for the owner of the website as well.

As a matter of fact, studies have proven, that when a website is down or not functioning, even when it comes back to be properly functioning, its hits are much less than before because people are not interested in returning to a website that was not functioning, especially when there are thousands of others just like it.

But there are certain responsibilities that are sometimes overlooked by website owners and managers.

For example, why is it that large corporations have such a large amount of traffic on their website? Of course, it would make sense that because of their fame and regularity among the public, many more hits will come their way.

However, research has shown that is not the only reason for their success on the web. These large corporations hire companies that are called search engine optimization companies, also known as SEO companies, in order to boost their ratings on search engines. That is to say, that by giving a website good ratings on a search engine, the website will become much easier to find and will, therefore, get much more traffic.

Not only do large corporations hire SEO companies, even small businesses do as well. SEO companies have proven to be a tremendous tool that helps increase internet traffic.

Website Marketing: What You Ought Know Before Starting (Part 1)

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Part 1 of 4. Ten years ago, it cost thousands of dollars per year to host a Website. Now, hosting a Website costs just a few dollars per month. Today, businesses of any size can benefit from the growing spectrum of opportunities online.

Before going further, we need to define terms. First, Website marketing deals with Webpages and Websites, email, search engines and the Internet as the foundation of the World Wide Web. Businesses can sell services and goods via Website marketing by using these methods.

In order to better understand these unique opportunities, here are a few key concepts:

The world wide web is a globe-spanning series of interlinked hypertext documents. Navigable via web browsers, users can view pages containing text, images and other multimedia content.

Web Server: A computer program that’s responsible for accepting HTTP requests from clients (user agents such as Web browsers), and serving them HTTP responses along with optional data, which usually are Webpages such as HTML documents and linked objects (images, etc.).

Web servers are located at IP addresses, globally unique groupings of numbers. For instance, the web server for google.com is located at 63.146.123.0. If the IP is your business’s difficult-to-remember physical address, its name is the more memorable detail which is seen more often.

A server can host one or numerous Websites which “are a collection of related Webpages, images, videos or other digital assets that are addressed with a common domain name or IP address.” In fact, it’s very common for hosting companies to have dozens or even hundreds of Websites on a server. This is one reason that the prices in Web hosting have fallen.

The domain name system (DNS) is a network of servers which translates cryptic IP addresses into domain names, thus making them available in a form readable by human and computer alike. In this way, any resource connected to a network can have a globally unique, easily memorable name that helps it to be found much more easily.

If all of these terms are making your head spin, here is an example that might paint a clearer picture. Be sure to check out Parts 1-2 and 4.
