When you first enter the arena of affiliate marketing it’s exciting — there are so many possibilities. Then you start learning about “niche markets” and “keyword research” and suddenly you are surrounded by a thick fog! The process of finding a useful niche and identifying a set of good keywords becomes a bit of a nightmare. You have probably come across scores of videos and reports that promise to show you the best and surest method of finding a profitable niche, or a guaranteed way to find valuable keywords to target.
Pretty soon you are dealing with total information overload, and you can’t make sense of anything. Quite possibly you have begun to understand the whole idea of a niche market; you might even recognize a good keyword when it’s put in front of you, but finding your own targeted keywords is just not happening yet. Perhaps you have tried half-a-dozen free keyword research tools, or bought six different pieces of software that were guaranteed to automate your keyword research? The promise is always the same, that you’re going to find an endless supply of keywords that work according to the “low competition-high search volume” model.
But if you’re like me, you do not yet have the experience OR the understanding to do effective keyword research for yourself. How many hours have you spent flipping from some keyword tool to Google and back again in search of those magic phrases that fulfill the law of low competition versus high search volume? The other mystery of keyword research is related to what kind of traffic a particular term will generate; some traffic is looking to buy a product or service in your niche, while other traffic is still in the process of information-gathering prior to purchasing.
Quite honestly, this is one of the most exhausting places to be in your life as a new affiliate marketer. There are other essential steps to affiliate marketing that you need to start working on, but it will never happen while you’re stuck in the keyword rut because you run out of time — all the more if you only have “spare” time. How will you get hub pages or a Wordpress site built, put some articles out there, build some backlinks — when there just aren’t any more hours?
If you could count on a source of good keywords you’d be free to get on with using them. What would happen if you woke up tomorrow and found a set of fifty or sixty targeted keywords in your email inbox — and you’re sure they come from a reliable source? Build a Squidoo lens to act as your landing page, pick five or ten keywords to target, and begin writing articles.
If you continue writing articles and building links for another week or two, depending on your time, you are on your way! And you still have dozens of keywords that you can target with more content and links. Sounds like a fairly cool plan, doesn’t it?
